The sheepdog trials held at Neilston Agricultural Society annual show
is usually one of the first open trials to be held in the new season.
The show accepts the first 60 dogs and handlers to enter for the show
and there is never a shortage of entrants. The class starts at 08:00AM
prompt on the Saturday morning of the show, one and a half hours before
any other class. The last few dogs are running at 05:00PM when most
other contestants have gone home.
Each handler runs his dog over a series of exercises with four sheep,
which usually takes about 10 minutes. The sections of the exercise
are:
The Outrun
The Lift
The Fetch
The Drive
The pen
The Shed
The dog and handler must complete the whole exercise.
The judges mark the performance out of a Maximum of 100 points.
