Course maximum height 3' 6" (1.05m). Maximum spread 3' 9" (1.12m) Open to horses 15hh and over, four years old and over. Riders 18 years old or over.

Classes will be judged in line with the Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain Rules, a copy of which can be downloaded from www.sporthorsegb.co.uk. The first THREE will qualify for the final even if they did not jump clear. If one of the first three has already qualified, the qualifying card can be passed down to the fourth place, provided fourth placed rider jumped clear. Final to be held at Blair Castle International Horse Trials 24th August 2012

To be eligible to compete at the Final, either the owner or rider of the horse must be a member of the British Horse Society.

NPS Scotland Rules
  1. Ponies may only qualify once for each NPS/Scotland Competition Final.
  2. All M & M ponies must be registered in the main body of their respective stud book. Part breds an X registered ponies and Eriskays are not eligible
  3. Qualification in the M & M section may go to 3rd in the championship. All others may go to no lower than 6th place.
  4. For the Novice classes. Ponies must wear a snaffle bridle & must not have won a 1st in any Open Ridden Mixed M & M or breed class prior to 1st January 2012. Ponies that have won any 4, 5 & 6 year old class in the previous year are deemed open ponies and are therefore not eligible for the NPS Scotland Kilmannan Novice Final. An Open class is one for registered ponies that does not mention, Junior, Novice, Intermediate, Lead Rein or First Ridden in its description. The description may or may not include the word Open.
  5. Entry for the Finals can only be made by sending the official card duly signed by the judge at the time of qualifying with your entry form.
  6. The OWNER must be or become a member of NPS Scotland before entering the Final
  7. All ridden ponies must be shown off the lead rein except in the specified Lead Rein Qualifier class. (Selected shows only)
  8. M & M Lead rein ponies, mares or geldings 4 years and over not exceeding 122cm. Dartmoor, Exmoor, Shetland, New Forest, Welsh A and B. Rider under 9 years.
  9. M & M First ridden ponies, mares or geldings 4 years and over not exceeding 128cm. Dartmoor, Exmoor, Shetland, New Forest, Welsh A and B. Rider 12 years.
  10. Maximum height for HP/RP is 153cm or 15hh. Foal classes excluded.
  11. Competition cards will be issued to all NPS Scotland members on receipt of membership. One per pony. If you require more contact the Secretary. This card will be dated and signed by the judge for the relevent competition section you have qualified for.
  12. Non members (of NPS Scotland) may get competition cards (No membership required) from the NPS Scotland secretary (SAE), or a few competition cards will be available for non-members at qualifying shows.
  13. All signed Competition cards to be returned with Championship Finals Entries or entries will not be accepted.
  14. The Final will take place at the Blair Castle International Horse Trials on Friday 24th August 2012.
NPS Mountain & Moorland Qualifying Rounds


These classes are judged under the rules of the NPS. Ponies must be registered in the main body of their respective Mountain & Moorland Stud Books. Part breds are not eligible.

Qualifying rounds for most NPS competitions are open to ponies owned by NPS members and non-members, but only ponies owned by adult NPS Full, Life or Standard members are eligible to qualify for the final of the competition at the NPS Summer Championship Show at Malvern from 1st to 3rd August 2012.

The highest placed pony owned by an NPS member in each class will qualify for the final. Where this pony has already qualified the pony standing next in line which is owned by an NPS member and has not already qualified receives the qualification. Qualification may go no lower than 3rd place. Judges and/or stewards will check membership cards prior to presenting the qualifying rosettes and cards. NPS Standard members will be required to upgrade to Full to enter the final.

NPS Silver Medal Rosette Championship Conditions


These classes are judged under the rules of the NPS. NPS Silver Medal Rosettes are only awarded where the owner of the champion pony is a Full, Life or Standard member of the NPS. A valid membership card must be in the Rider's/Handler's possession on entering the ring and be produced immediately on request by either the judge or the steward. If the owner of the Champion pony is not a member, or the owners membership card is not immediately produced, the rosette may be awarded to the Reserve Champion provided they have the required membership card. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette but the Qualification Card goes to the Reserve Champion pony provided the owner of that pony is a member of the NPS. The Silver Medal Rosette and the Qualification Card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve (3rd). Foals are not eligible for the Silver Medal Championship. A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by the NPS for the best registered pony in the M&M In Hand section. The Sponsor's Rosette is also awarded to the pony receiving the Qualification card

Qualifiers are entitled to compete in either the NPS/The MINNS M&M In Hand Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show in Malvern 1st - 3rd August 2012 or at the Championship Show in Scotland. Qualifiers may only compete in one Kilmannan Final.

For the First and Second prize winners from classes 163 and 164

A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by The National Pony Society for the best registered pony in the Mountain & Moorland Ridden Section.
Qualifiers are entitled to compete in either the NPS/The Minns M & M ridden Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show in Malvern, 1st-3rd August 2012 or at the Championship Show in Scotland. Qualifiers may only compete in one The Minns final.

SPSBS Affiliation rules 2012


  1. Classes must be confined to Registered Ponies. Ponies must be named on the entry form and in the catalogue if one is produced. Society rosettes must only be given to ponies registered with the Society or eligible for registration (i.e. foals)
  2. Three year old fillies with foals at foot may not be shown. All foals must be a minimum of three weeks old on the day of the Show
  3. There must be no colts or entire males in Young Handlers classes. Children under 14 years old may not show colts (excluding foals) or entire males in In-hand classes. Children under 11 years old on the day of the show may not show entire males in ridden classes. In the interests of safety, hard hats must be worn by all exhibitors, irrespective of age, in ridden classes. In ridden classes, if a rider falls off at any time whilst in the ring, both pony and rider must leave the ring, rider dismounted, and take no further part.

Competitors faulting in the first phase are halted by the whistle after jumping the last obstacle in the First phase and they leave the arena. Competitors who have jumped clear in the first phase immediately carry on to the 2nd phase against the clock. [In accordance with BSJA Rule Book (Rule 286A)]
